MACS-Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), an autonomous Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, is committed to promoting science and technology with emphasis on high standards of research and development activities for the benefit of humankind and the nation. The current research activities encompass biological sciences and focus on six thematic areas: Biodiversity & Palaeobiology, Bioenergy, Bioprospecting, Developmental Biology, Genetics & Plant Breeding, and Nanobioscience.

Applications are invited from Indian citizens for filling up of 01(one) post of Scientists-B on direct recruitment basis in the Agharkar Research Institute, Pune as per details given below:-

ii. SCALE OF PAY: Level-10 in the pay matrix Rs. 56100-177500 (Pre-revised Rs.15600-39100 plus Grade

v. EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Discipline: Biodiversity & Paleobiology (Fungi)

 Essential/Desirable Qualifications for Corresponding Discipline

Desirable:

  1. PhD in any of the above subjects (topic must be related to Fungi/Mycology)
  2. Working experience in selective isolation, in vitro culturing, conservation, and describing fungal taxa (species/genera)
  3. Sound knowledge of the latest developments in systematics, classification, and taxonomy of fungi.
  4. Working Experience in DNA isolation, (from natural substrates, and pure culture) PCR, Sequencing, and multigene phylogeny of various group of fungi.
  5. Sound knowledge of modern tools like NGS, metagenome and bioinformatic analysis of fungi.
  6. Experience in the isolation of fungal secondary metabolites, enzyme assays, bioactivity testing, and handling analytical equipment like HPLC, GC-MS, MALDI-TOF, etc.
  7. Publications in journals (with JCR impact factor) to support the research/desirable experience in the relevant area(s).

Job Requirements:

  1. Isolation, purification, and in-vitro culturing of different groups of filamentous fungi from natural sources/substrates
  2. Ex situ conservation of fungi using short-term and long-term methods (freeze-drying; cryopreservation, etc.).
  3. Classifying and describing fungal taxa (species/genera, etc.)
  4. Isolation of DNA from environmental samples and pure cultures of fungi, PCR and multi-gene sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, and deposit of sequences in GenBank
  5. Working with modern bioinformatic tools of fungi in reference to NGS, metagenome, and analyses.
  6. Isolating fungal secondary metabolites, enzyme assays, bioactivity testing, and handling equipment like MALDITOF, HPLC, GC-MS, etc.
  7. To Publish in journals (with JCR impact factor) to support the research/desirable experience in the relevant area(s).

AGE LIMIT: The upper age limit for direct recruits shall be 35 years, as on the closing date of applications. The upper age limit is relaxable for Government Servants up to five years in accordance with the orders issued by the Central Government. Any other relaxation in age limit shall be in accordance with orders issued by the Central Government from time to time. After filling the details, the candidates need to submit the form and take a printout of his/her application and send it along with self-attested copies of qualifications, certificates, Passport size photograph, certificate issued by competent authorities to The Director, Agharkar Research Institute, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar Road, Pune – 411 004, on or before 16th February 2024. The envelope should be superscribed as “Application for the post of Scientist -B Biodiversity & Paleobiology (Fungi) group”. Candidates must carefully go through the advertisement before filling the application form. It is the responsibility of the candidates to ensure that they follow the instructions while filling the application. The candidate must ensure attaching clear, legible certificates/documents while sending the hard copy of the application. Attaching illegible/incorrect certificates/documents may lead to the rejection of the candidature.

(a) Note: Experience/employment certificates for work/research work must clearly indicate the date of joining, date of relieving, and post held.

(b) Candidates working in Government Departments / Public Sector Undertakings / Autonomous Organizations should submit No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the competent authority of the organization they are serving, in the format specified at Annexure-I. It is the responsibility of such candidates to ensure that they obtain NOC from their Department/organization within time to submit the same with the application form.

(c) Copies of certificates in support of educational qualifications, date of birth, Disability, Community (in the case of SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates only), and experience should be submitted with the application. Candidates will have to produce the original certificates as and when required.

Important Note:

(xxi) It may be noted that mere online filling of the application will not be sufficient. Candidates are required to mandatorily submit the online printout of the application along with supporting documents by hand/post/Speed post/courier, etc. on or before the closing date of the application.
