The Wildlife Institute of India is an internationally acclaimed Institution that offers a training program for government and non-government personnel, academic courses, and wildlife research and management advisory. The Institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity-related issues.

The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, invites applications from INDIAN NATIONALS for engaging eleven (11) purely contractual positions of research personnel under four (04) projects of the institute.

The period of contractual engagement

1. Project: Monitoring of Wildlife Overpasses and Underpasses on Samruddhi Expressway Phase II

Post I

Position Name: Project Scientist – II (Ecology)

No. of posts – 01

Upper Age Limit – 40

Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 67,000 + HRA

Essential Qualification: Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University.
AND
Minimum three (03) years relevant experience post PhD.

Desirable Qualification: Demonstrated experience/ aptitude in a) spatial analysis and ecological modelling, b) statistical analysis, c) project design and coordination of multi-disciplinary project team and field data collection c) research publications in peer-reviewed national/ international journals.

Description of Work – Candidate will lead a team and conduct field research, surveys, data collection, analysis and report-writing for monitoring of wildlife underpasses and overpasses. Job also includes liasoning with forest department and MSRDC.

Post II

Position Name: Project Associate – I (Ecology)

No. of posts – 04

Upper Age Limit – 35

Duration – Five (05) Years

Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 31,000 + HRA

Essential Qualification: Master’s Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification: Candidate(s) with prior experience in camera trapping, sign surveys, distance sapling and vegetation surveys will be preferred. GIS, GPS, statistical analysis, and report writing knowledge is desirable. Should be able to undertake arduous field work in human dominated landscape of Maharashtra as well as forests.

Candidates with a Masters’ Degree in Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Genetics/ Molecular Biology/ Veterinary Sciences and/or who are pursuing or have completed their PhD need not apply for this post.

Description of Work – Conduct monitoring of wildlife underpasses and overpasses using camera trapping, sign surveys and other field techniques. Undertake misc. field activities as required in the project. Candidates will also be required to analyze the data and write reports.

2. Project: Understanding elephant conflict issues for suggesting conflict reduction measures (Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Assam)

Post III

Position Name: Principal Project Associate (Ecology)

No. of posts – 01

Upper Age Limit – 40

Duration – One (01) Year

Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 49,000 + HRA

Essential Qualification:

Masters’s Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Environmental Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
AND
8 years experience after master’s degree with publications in peer-reviewed journals in relevant field.
OR
Doctoral Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Environmental Sciences from a recognized University.

Description of Work – The proposed project aims to study the movement ecology of selected mammal species with different ecological adaptations across the IHR. The selected mammal species are Pallas’s cat (Otocolobus manual), Himalayan wolf (Canis lupus) and Himalayan marmot (Marmota himalayana). The work involves capture and tagging of target species and intensive monitoring in tough and rugged terrain of Ladakh India.

  3. Shortlisting of applications for an online/walk-in interview will be based on essential qualification, age limit, NET/GATE qualification, percentage of marks in Bachelor and  Master, specialization relevance in Masters, research experience (Publications, Paper Presented in Workshops/Seminars/Symposiums/Conferences etc.), SOP and extracurricular activities (as per WII rules).

  6. At the time of the verification of original documents or even after selection, if it is found

    such applicant will not be considered for selection, and due action will be taken.
  7. Relaxation in the upper age limit shall be allowed in accordance with the Government
    of India, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of
    Personnel & Training) OM No. 15012/2/2010-Estt. (D)dated 27.03.2012, as amended
    from time to time. However, the categories of upper-age relaxations are as follows:
    a. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes up to 5 years.
    b. Other Backward Class (OBC) up to 3 years.
  8. The positions advertised are purely temporary/contractual for the project period only.
    They will stand abolished after the completion of the project.
  9. The Institute’s rules and regulations govern the project’s tenure.
  10. After announcing the results, the candidate should join the project immediately.
  11. The Director WII reserves the right to reject any candidature because of incomplete
    information provided by the candidate or for any other reason.
