FMR Research Officer Job – PhD Candidates Apply

FMR is seeking applications from bright and motivated scientists specializing in genomics with an interest in pursuing independent research in tuberculosis and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance and transmission research from clinical, environmental, and social perspectives.

Name of position: Research Officer (Mid – Senior level)

Tenure: 4 years, including 6 months of probation with extendable contracts based on performance and meeting expectations.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • PhD with a minimum of 4 years of research experience in relevant areas.

Desirable:

  • Experience in BSL – 2 / BSL – 3 laboratory research
  • Experience in TB and Environmental Genomics research
  • Capacity to analyze data from various sequencing platforms
  • Capacity for innovation & independent work
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Job Description:

  • Conceptualize, acquire research grants, and lead new projects
  • Lab and team management
  • Broader responsibilities in institutional, academic & operational committees

Additional qualifications:

  • Ability to undertake teamwork
  • Facilitate sharing of ideas & information
  • Encouraging of broader scientific aspects beyond specific projects
  • Take the current genomics research program at the Foundation forward
  • Have acquired and led at least one competitive grant or fellowship independently as Principal Investigator post-PhD.

If the candidate meets expectations in the first three years, opportunities will be provided to expand & pursue basic translational research that supports timely public health needs. The candidate will also be given opportunities for up-skilling depending on their potential throughout their tenure at the Foundation. They will be encouraged to apply to the university as guides.

Remuneration: Subject to relevant qualifications, experience & merit.
