Advertisement Notice for Research Associate and Junior Research Fellow

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate (RA) and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) from Indian citizens under the research project funded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Post I

Name of the post: Research Associate (RA)

No. of post: One (Temporary)

Project Title: Development of Artificial Intelligence based Treatment Planning 3D Imaging Software for Patients with Liver Cancer and Other Liver Diseases (A collaborative research project involving JIPMER and Puducherry Technological University)

Principal Investigator: Dr Biju Pottakkat, Professor, Surgical Gastroenterology, JIPMER, Puducherry.

Duration: 2 years

Age limit: Upper age limit is 40 years as of the last date of application. Relaxed upper age limit by two years in case of women candidates. The cut-off date for the age limit will be as on the last date of submission of the application.

Stipend: Rs.55,460/- inclusive of HRA (As per ICMR norms)

Essential Qualifications:

  • PhD or
  • M.D/MS or Equivalent degree or
  • 3 years of research, teaching and design and development experience after ME/M.Tech
  • At least one research paper in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal.
  • A prior practical knowledge of image processing applications is preferred

Responsibility: The task includes:

  • Performing ground truth creation for the abdominal computed tomography (CT) images. Ground truths have to be prepared manually for the liver, liver tumour, hepatic artery, hepatic vein and portal vein from the contrast phase images of the abdomen.

  • Required to work in JIPMER as well as Puducherry Technological University

Post II

Name of the post: Junior Research Fellow

No. of post: One (Temporary)

Project Title: Development of Artificial Intelligence based Treatment Planning 3D Imaging Software for Patients with Liver Cancer and Other Liver Diseases (A collaborative research project involving JIPMER and Puducherry Technological University)

Principal Investigator: Dr Biju Pottakkat, Professor, Surgical Gastroenterology, JIPMER, Puducherry.

Duration: 2 years, may be extended for one more year based on candidate’s performance and availability of fund.

Age limit: Upper age limit is 35 years as of the last date of application. Relaxed upper age limit by two years in case of women candidates. The cut-off date for the age limit will be as on the last date of submission of the application.

Stipend: Rs.36,580/- inclusive of HRA (As per ICMR norms)

Essential Qualifications:

Postgraduate degree ME/M.Tech/M.S in engineering domain (Computer Science / Electronics and Communication Engineering/ Information Technology/ Biomedical / Medical Informatics/ data science or related domains).

Eligibility: PG degree in the domain selected through a process described through any one of the following:

a) Scholars who are selected through National Eligibility Test -CSIR-UGC NET including lectureship (Assistant Professorship) and GATE
b) The Selection process through a National level examination conducted by Central Govt. Departments and their agencies and Institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MHRD, ICAR, ICMR, llT, IISc, IISER etc.

Desirable:

  • Passed NET/GATE/equivalent exam.
  • Prior knowledge of the implementation of Machine Learning / Deep Learning algorithms for imaging applications using Python is desirable

Responsibility: The task includes:

  1. Development of Al-based segmentation algorithms to segment liver, liver tumour and
    hepatic vascular structures from contrast phased Image Series and
  2. 3D Modelling of the liver with precise visualization of three aggressive regions of tumour and hepatic vascular structures.
  3. Other relevant work related to the project
  4. Required to work in JIPMER as well as Puducherry Technological University

Note: Candidates selected for this position may also apply for the regular Ph.D. program through the institute selection process.

General Instructions and Conditions:

  1. Applications not in the prescribed format will not be processed or accepted.
  2. Incomplete applications and applications which are not in the format prescribed below and those not satisfying the essential criteria mentioned above will be summarily rejected without assigning any reasons thereof. Candidates may attach their curriculum vitae (CV) with this application. However, applications with a CV alone without the prescribed form and attachments of certificates etc. will be rejected.
  3. The appointment is initially for a period of 12 months and the appointment may be extended based on the performance every year until the project is completed.
  4. Validity of the selected list is valid for 12 months from the date of publication of results.
  5. Qualification and experience should be in a relevant discipline/field.
  6. The above post is purely on a temporary/contractual basis, co-terminus of the project & the candidate will have no right to claim permanent employment in the Institute/ under ICMR or continuation of his or her services in any other project and no claim for any other regular post in JIPMER shall be entertained. No benefit of provident fund, leave travel concession, medical claim etc. will be considered.
  7. Canvassing of any kind will lead to disqualification. Submission of wrong or false information during/after the process of selection shall disqualify the candidature at any stage.
  8. If the performance of the appointee is not found satisfactory by the investigator, an appointment can be terminated at any time without any notice.
  9. The appointee may be relieved from the current job position if he/she wishes with one-month prior notice. Relieving earlier may require a deposit of paying one month’s stipend.
  10. A screening written test will be conducted for eligible candidates if more applications are received. Final selection will be done by personal and technical interviews through a duly constituted interview board.
  11. In case of any dispute/ambiguity that may occur in the process of selection, the decision of the JIPMER Institute shall be final.
